What Are Peptides

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, which are the natural building blocks of proteins. They are found throughout the body and play an essential role in cell signaling, tissue repair, immune support, and countless other biological functions. Because they are smaller than proteins, peptides are able to interact more directly with receptors in the body, making them powerful tools in scientific study and health applications.

Over the past decade, peptides have gained significant attention for their wide-ranging potential, from supporting recovery and performance to assisting with healthy skin, hormones, and overall well-being. PureChain Labs provides premium-quality products designed to meet the highest standards of purity, ensuring you have access to materials you can trust.

How To Use

PureChain Labs products are supplied as lyophilized powder, which means they must be prepared before use. To reconstitute, carefully add the recommended amount of bacteriostatic water into the vial. This process transforms the powder into a usable liquid form while helping maintain freshness and stability. Always use sterile equipment and handle the vial with care to prevent contamination.

Once mixed, store the vial in the refrigerator and use within 30 days. To get the best results, avoid leaving reconstituted peptides at room temperature for extended periods, and keep them tightly sealed when not in use. Following these steps will help ensure product quality and effectiveness from the first use to the last.

Storage Instructions

All PureChain Labs products are manufactured using the Lyophilization (Freeze Drying) process, which ensures that they remain stable during shipping for up to 3–4 months. Lyophilization, also known as cryodesiccation, is a unique dehydration method where peptides are frozen and exposed to low pressure. This allows water in the vial to sublimate directly from solid to gas, leaving behind a pure, crystalline white powder. This stable structure means your peptides can be stored safely at room temperature until you are ready to prepare them.

Once the peptides are reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, they must be kept refrigerated at or below 4 °C (39 °F). In this state, they remain stable for up to 30 days. For unopened lyophilized peptides, short-term storage at room temperature or in the fridge is generally acceptable. For long-term storage over several months or years, keeping them in a freezer at –80 °C (–112 °F) is recommended. Always keep your peptides cold, away from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve maximum stability.

About This Compound

About GHK-Cu

GHK-Cu is the tripeptide glycyl-histidyl-lysine bound to a copper(II) ion. The peptide occurs naturally in human plasma, where its concentration falls with age, and it binds copper with high affinity through its histidine imidazole and the terminal amine. That copper-carrying property is the whole point of the molecule in research: it is studied as a physiological shuttle that delivers copper to enzymes and as a signalling peptide in its own right, and it is one of the most heavily published small peptides in skin and wound-model literature.

How It Works

How GHK-Cu Works

The pathways GHK-Cu acts on, and what each one does. Described from preclinical and receptor-pharmacology literature.

Copper Transport

A Physiological Copper Shuttle

The tripeptide binds copper(II) with an affinity close to that of albumin, which lets it exchange copper with plasma proteins and carry it to cells. Copper is a required cofactor for lysyl oxidase, superoxide dismutase and cytochrome c oxidase, so the complex is studied as a delivery route to those enzymes rather than as an inert carrier.

  • Binds Cu(II) at an affinity comparable to albumin
  • Exchanges copper with plasma binding proteins
  • Copper is a cofactor for lysyl oxidase and SOD
ECM Signalling

Collagen And Extracellular Matrix Models

In fibroblast culture GHK-Cu is used to study the synthesis of collagen, elastin, glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, and the balance between matrix metalloproteinases and their tissue inhibitors. It is a standard positive control in extracellular-matrix work.

  • Studied for collagen and elastin synthesis in fibroblast models
  • Used in MMP / TIMP balance experiments
  • A reference compound in ECM turnover assays
Gene Expression

Broad Transcriptional Profiling

Published microarray work reports that GHK resets the expression of a large number of human genes towards a healthier pattern in cultured cells. That breadth is why the peptide appears in transcriptomic studies rather than only in matrix assays.

  • Profiled by microarray across thousands of human genes
  • Reported effects on both up- and down-regulated sets
  • Used in transcriptomic as well as biochemical models

Signalling pathways studied in preclinical models. Illustrative, not a claim of effect in humans.

FAQ

Common Questions About GHK-Cu

What Is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is the naturally occurring human tripeptide glycyl-histidyl-lysine complexed with a copper(II) ion. It was first isolated from human plasma in 1973 and is supplied here as a research compound.

Why Is The Copper Part Important?

Because the peptide is studied specifically as a copper carrier. Copper is an essential cofactor for enzymes including lysyl oxidase and superoxide dismutase, and much of the published research treats GHK-Cu as a physiological way of delivering it.

Is GHK-Cu The Same As GHK?

No. GHK is the bare tripeptide; GHK-Cu is that tripeptide with copper bound. They are studied both together and separately, because some reported activity depends on the metal and some does not.

Why Is GHK-Cu Used In Skin Research?

Plasma GHK concentration declines substantially with age, and the peptide has an extensive published record in collagen and extracellular-matrix models. That combination makes it a standard reference compound in dermal work.

Is GHK-Cu Approved For Human Use?

The material supplied here is a research chemical for in-vitro laboratory use only. It is not supplied for human or veterinary use in any form.

How Should Research-Grade GHK-Cu Be Stored?

Lyophilized GHK-Cu should be stored at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Copper complexes are sensitive to oxidation, so solutions should be kept cold and used promptly after reconstitution.
